The myth

A lot of casual astrology talk stops at "which planets do I have" — as if a strong Jupiter or a difficult Saturn means the same thing for everyone. It doesn't. The house a planet sits in changes what that planet is actually doing in your life.

The twelve rooms

• 9th — Fortune: father, dharma, higher learning, luck
• 10th — Career: public standing, authority, life's work

• 12th — Release: loss, foreign lands, solitude, spiritual liberation

A real example

Take Mars — a planet of drive and assertion. Mars in the 1st house tends to show up as physical energy and a direct personality. Mars in the 7th house, governing partnerships, more often shows up as friction or intensity in marriage and business relationships. Same planet, same energy, but an entirely different life theme depending on which room it's standing in.

What to actually do with this

Next time you read a generic "Mars in your chart means..." description, ask which house it's actually referring to. A placement-aware reading — the kind that names the specific house, not just the planet — is the difference between a real chart reading and a horoscope column.
