Muhurta — What Business Leaders Know About Timing

The myth

Choosing an "auspicious date" for a launch or a big decision can sound like pure superstition — as if any date works fine, and the ritual of picking one is just for reassurance.

The actual mechanism

Muhurta (often called election astrology) is the practice of selecting a start time based on planetary strength and the avoidance of specific known weak periods — such as Rahu Kaal, a roughly 90-minute daily window traditionally considered unfavourable for new beginnings. The logic isn't that a bad muhurta guarantees failure; it's that starting during a structurally weaker period means beginning with less favourable conditions supporting the effort, for no real cost of avoiding it.

A real example

Consider two otherwise identical product launches — same product, same team, same market. One is scheduled avoiding a known weak transit window; the other happens to fall directly inside one, purely by coincidence of a calendar deadline. Muhurta's proposition is that the first launch begins with fewer working against it, not that it guarantees success on its own.

What to actually do with this

For anything with a flexible start date — a launch, a signing, a big move — check the day's Rahu Kaal and broader planetary conditions before locking in a time. It costs nothing to check, and the tradition's whole argument is that it's free insurance against starting on the wrong foot.
