The Main Entrance โ€” Vastu's Single Most Important Point

The main door is where the home breathes in. Its direction, condition and clarity matter more than any other single factor.

The myth

People often focus Vastu attention on the interior โ€” furniture placement, mirror positions, bedroom layout โ€” while treating the front door as just an entry point like any other.

The actual mechanism

In Vastu, the main entrance is considered the point where a home's energy (prana) enters first. Its direction relative to the compass, and its physical condition โ€” well-lit, unobstructed, clean, proportionate to the home โ€” is treated as setting the tone for everything the home subsequently receives. A weak or blocked entrance is considered to limit the benefit of even a well-arranged interior, because the entry point itself is constrained.

A real example

A home can have an interior laid out with textbook precision โ€” kitchen in the southeast, prayer room in the northeast โ€” and still underperform in practice if the main door is dark, cluttered with shoes and clutter, or structurally obstructed by something directly opposite it. The classical view is that the entrance issue undermines the rest.

Fix the door before you fix the room.

What to actually do with this

If you're only going to apply one Vastu principle with real attention, make it the entrance: keep it well-lit, clear of clutter, and in good repair. It's also the cheapest, fastest fix available โ€” no renovation required, just attention.
